FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ashley Whitmarsh and Stacey Wasserman Reach ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Two Elizabethtown College volleyball players reached career milestones during action at the Battlefield Classic on the campus of Gettysburg College over the weekend. Senior Ashley Whitmarsh (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) became the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills in the Blue Jays' 3-0 win over Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon, while senior Stacey Wasserman (Upperco, MD/Owings Mills) was the eighth Blue Jay to reach 1,000 career digs in a 3-1 victory over Richard Stockton College on Friday. Whitmarsh, who reached the 1,000-kill milestone in the opening game against Salisbury, finished the weekend with 1,010 kills to join classmate Kelly Downs as active members of the 1,000-kill club. Downs currently has 1,112 kills to rank third on the Blue Jay career list behind Liz Bishard (1,295 kills from 1994-97) and Emily Morris (1,188 kills from 2000-2003). Wasserman, who is already Elizabethtown's career leader in assists with 3,441, surpassed the 1,000-dig mark in the opening game against Richard Stockton. She subsequently passed Meghan Gowens (1,008 digs) for seventh place on the Elizabethtown career list and ended the weekend with 1,037 digs. The Blue Jays, who won all four of their matches at the Battlefield Classic, will carry a perfect 7-0 record into Wednesday night's non-conference match at Haverford College. |
