Emily Gunter Named Commonwealth Conference Defender Player of the Week in Women's Soccer

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Emily Gunter (Hockessin, DE/A.I. duPont) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Defender of the Week in women's soccer for the week ending Sept. 23, the conference office announced Monday.

Gunter continues to anchor one of the top defenses in Division III, as the Blue Jays posted three more shutouts last week to extend their streak of consecutive shutouts to eight. Elizabethtown tied nationally-ranked York College 0-0 on Tuesday, and followed with 3-0 wins over Delaware Valley College and Wesley College to end the week.

Gunter, who played 256 of the Blue Jays’ 290 minutes last week, helped to limit Etown’s opponents to just 19 total shots, including nine shots on goal. On Saturday, the Blue Jays shut down a Wesley offense that had scored 10 or more goals four times this season by allowing just two harmless shots.

The Blue Jays (7-1-1 overall) carry an eight-game unbeaten streak into Tuesday's non-conference match at St. Mary's (Md.).
