Elizabethtown Places Eight on All-Commonwealth Conference Men's Soccer Team

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Eight Elizabethtown men's soccer players have been named All-Commonwealth Conference as voted upon by the league's six head coaches and released Wednesday.

Earning first-team honors were senior forward George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford), senior midfielder Michael Terry (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) and junior defender Wes Bunting (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey).

On the second team were first-year forward Andrew Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Northeast Catholic), junior forward Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersberg Academy), junior midfielder Bryan Holt (Hershey, PA/Lower Dauphin), senior midfielder Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) and senior defender Zach Galbraith (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley).

Filewicz was also honored as the conference's Rookie of the Year for the Blue Jays, whose eight All-Conference picks are the most since having eight selections in 1998.

The Blue Jays finished 14-6-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference under 25th-year head coach Skip Roderick, advancing to the conference finals for the fifth consecutive season before falling to Messiah College 1-0.

Severini leads the Commonwealth Conference with 15 goals and ranks second with 32 points. He posted four two-goal games and scored four game-winning goals for the Blue Jays.

Terry is a repeat first-team selection and is All-Conference for the third time in his career. He scored four goals and added an assist for nine points while regularly playing all 90 minutes at his center midfield position.

Bunting is also a repeat selection to the first team after starting all 20 games at center back and scoring two goals and four assists for eight points.

Filewicz scored a pair of goals and tied for the team lead with seven assists for a total of nine points on the year. He is the first Blue Jay to earn Rookie of the Year honors since Brennan Reichenbach shared the award in 2003.

Diller scored 11 goals, including five game-winners, and added four assists for 26 points. Through the end of the conference playoffs, he ranked third in the Commonwealth Conference in both goals and points.

Holt started all 20 games at center midfield and finished with a goal and two assists for four points. His goal was a game-winner in a 1-0 win over Drew University on Sept. 13.

Helsel finished with two goals and seven assists for 11 points while playing all 20 games for the Blue Jays. He scored in a 4-2 win over Hampden-Sydney College on Sept. 8 and against Wheaton College in a 5-2 victory on Oct. 22.

Galbraith started 19 games at right back and finished with three assists while helping the Blue Jay defense limit opponents to 16 goals in 20 matches while recording 10 shutouts.

Messiah's Kai Kasiguran was named Player of the Year while Scott Kennell of Lycoming College was selected Coach of the Year.
