FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown Picked Third in Commonwealth Conference Women's Basketball Poll ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the Commonwealth Conference, as voted upon by the league's six head coaches and released Tuesday. The Blue Jays return all five starters from last year's squad, which finished 13-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference under head coach Yvonne Kauffman, who begins her 38th season on the Elizabethtown sidelines with 629 career victories. Senior guard Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) was a first-team All-Conference selection last year as she led the league in scoring at 20.9 points per game, while senior center Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) paced the conference in rebounding with 10.5 boards per contest. Three-time defending conference champion Messiah College received four first-place votes and 25 points to take the top spot in the poll, followed by Albright College (21 points, one first-place vote), Elizabethtown (14 points), Widener University (12 points), Lebanon Valley College (10 points) and Lycoming College (8 points). The Commonwealth Conference was realigned following the conclusion of last season, with the departure of Juniata College, Moravian College and Susquehanna University to the newly-formed Landmark Conference and the addition of Lycoming from the Freedom Conference. |
