Elizabethtown College Cross Country Squads Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's and women's cross country teams have each received the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Team All-Academic honors for the 2007 season, the USTFCCCA has announced.

In addition, the Blue Jays placed four women and two men on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes with a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average who finish in the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.

Earning All-Academic honors for the Elizabethtown women were senior All-American Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run), the NCAA Mideast Regional champion, junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge), sophomore Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and senior Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East).

Elizabethtown was one of just 11 schools in Division III to place four or more student-athletes among the 203 members of the women's All-Academic Team, and the lone school among the 45 eligible teams from the Mideast Region.

Capturing All-Academic honors for the Blue Jay men were junior Scott Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) and sophomore Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), among the 150 members of the men's All-Academic team.

The Blue Jay men ranked 33rd among the 379 schools that sponsor men's cross country at the Division III level with a 3.35 cumulative grade-point average among all team members, while the Elizabethtown women are 101st among the 390 schools that sponsor women's cross country with a 3.29 cumulative grade-point average among all team members.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet.  The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average.
