Sam Heaps Selected Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in Baseball

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College junior first baseman/pitcher Sam Heaps (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in baseball for the week ending April 20, the conference office announced Monday.

Heaps went 9-for-16 with five runs scored and five runs batted in as the Blue Jays went 3-1 on the week, including a sweep of their key three-game conference series with Messiah College.

He posted multi-hit games in all four contests, including a 3-for-5 effort in the opener against Messiah that included a home run and three runs batted in. In addition, Heaps pitched five innings to earn the win in the game.

Heaps ranks second in the Commonwealth Conference in batting average at .438, trailing only teammate Jared Auman, and has added two home runs and 24 runs batted in for the Blue Jays (19-9 overall, 8-1 Commonwealth).

Elizabethtown opens the final week of the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference game at Susquehanna beginning at 3:30 p.m.
