FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Men's Tennis In Action at MASCAC Individual Championships ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's tennis team will be in action this weekend at the 2008 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Individual Championships at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre. Action at the two-day tournament begins Saturday morning and concludes on Sunday with semifinals and finals in each of six singles flights and three doubles flights. Sophomore Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) will play at first singles after finishing as the runner-up at third singles last season. A first-team All-Commonwealth Conference selection, he leads the Blue Jays with a 12-9 overall record (9-6 at first singles) and has a career record of 30-16 in two seasons. At second singles, junior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) will compete after finishing 7-8 during the regular season. He was also a first-team All-Conference choice, and went 7-6 at second singles in dual matches for the Blue Jays. Senior Andrew Voshell (Chester Heights, PA/Garnet Valley) will play at third singles after finishing second at fourth singles last season. He carries an 11-7 record into action, including 10-4 in dual matches, and has a career mark of 21-19. First-year student Bryan Metz (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) is entered at fourth singles, after claiming second-team All-Conference honors this season after going 9-12 overall and 8-7 in dual matches. Sophomore Brandon Stolar (Millville, NJ/Millville) was one of three Blue Jays to finish in double figures in wins, going 10-11 overall. He will play at fifth singles after winning four times in that lineup spot during the season. Rounding out the lineup is first-year student Stijn van Esveld (Bilthoven, The Netherlands), who went 6-3 overall during the season and 4-2 at sixth singles. In doubles, Kirkhoff and Voshell will play at flight one after going 8-6 overall during the regular season, and Walker and Metz will team at flight two after compiling a 12-7 overall mark and 11-4 in dual matches. At third doubles, senior Jim Dombach (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) will play with sophomore Mike Steiner (Greensburg, PA/Greater Latrobe) after the pair fashioned a strong 9-3 record in dual matches. The Blue Jays have not claimed an individual MAC champion since 2005, when Greg Voshell won at third singles and Josh Miller captured the title at fourth singles. |
