ELIZABETHTOWN Elizabethtown College's Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin), a junior forward, was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in field hockey for the week ending October 22.
Espenshade scored a hat trick in Etown's 6-0 win over Delaware Valley Thursday, October 19. She scored the Blue Jays' first, second and fourth goals in the game, all of which came during the first half. Espenshade also had a goal and an assist in Etown's 4-0 win over Albright Wednesday, October 18. For the week, she compiled four goals and one assist for nine points over three games.
Espenshade is currently tied for the team lead in goals scored with 12 and is tied for second on the Blue Jays in points with 26. She also has two assists this season and has started all 19 games for Etown. She is also tied for third for most goals per game in the Commonwealth Conference and is tied for fifth in the conference in points per game.
The Elizabethtown field hockey team finished the regular season 15-4-0 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth Conference. The team is currently ranked 12th in the nation in NCAA Division III according to the latest NFHCA coaches' poll, released Tuesday, October 24.
The Etown field hockey team begins postseason play on the road against Messiah Wednesday, October 25, for the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs. Etown will face the Falcons, ranked seventh in the nation, at 3:00 p.m.
Admission for all conference playoff games is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for students. Admission for children ages six and under is free.
