Three Blue Jays Named to Middle Atlantic Conference Baseball All-Star TeamELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Three members of the Elizabethtown College baseball team have been selected as Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth League first-team all-stars for the 1999 season. They are:Scott Weigle (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area), senior pitcher and outfielder, who started 37 games for the Blue Jays in 1999 and was also chosen as the MAC Commonwealth League Most Valuable Player. He went 7-0 with 43 strikeouts and a 2.54 ERA over 49.2 innings on the mound and led the team in runs scored (33) and walks (19). In addition, he batted .331 on the season and was second on the team in hits (40), RBI (24) and doubles (10). He was also named as an MAC Commonwealth League all-star in 1997 and 1998. Chris Romig (Beavertown, Pa./West Snyder), junior thirdbaseman, who started all 38 games for the Blue Jays in 1999, leading the team in batting average (.377), hits (46), RBI (32), doubles (17) and slugging percentage (.549). In addition, he led the MAC in doubles and was second in the conference in RBI per game and fifth in batting average. It is the first time he has earned MAC Commonwealth League all-star honors. Kiah Sheppard (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), a junior catcher, who started 36 games for the Blue Jays in 1999. He finished second on the team and sixth in the MAC with a .358 batting average and was also among the team leaders in runs (19), hits (39), RBI (23), doubles (7) and on-base percentage (.437). It is the first time he has earned MAC Commonwealth League all-star honors. The Elizabethtown baseball team posted a 27-11 overall record in 1999 and won their fourth MAC Commonwealth League title in six years with a 12-2 mark. The Blue Jays led the conference with a .311 team batting average and were second in the MAC with a team earned run average of 3.26. |
