EIGHT MEMBERS OF ETOWN WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM NAMED TO MAC COMMONWEALTH ALL-STAR TEAMS; MEREDITH UBER NAMED MVP; BARRY DOHNER NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team has claimed eight spots on the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth All-Star teams, the conference Most Valuable Player award and the conference Coach of the Year Award.

Barry Dohner was named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

Meredith Uber (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was named the MAC Commonwealth Most Valuable Player, in addition to earning a spot on the conference all-star first team.

Also named to the first team were Kristy Wade (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph), Dina Jingoli (Morrisville, PA/Notre Dame, NJ), Toni Stern (Ephrata, PA/Garden Spot), Diane Fisher (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan) and Lisa Blanker (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville).

Andrea Thompson (West Lawn, PA/Holy Name) and Christy Callahan (Dallas, PA/Dallas) were named conference second team all-stars.

Uber, a senior sweeper and team captain, was named to the MAC Commonwealth first team for the third time and an all-star for the fourth time, and captured her first MVP award. She led a Blue Jay defense which allowed only 16 goals in 23 games and totaled 12 shutouts in 1999. She scored one goal and had one assist.

A senior forward, Wade finished the season second on the team in goals scored with nine. She also led the team in game-winning goals with four. The highest scorer in the history of Elizabethtown soccer, she ended her career with program records in career goals and points scored with 68 and 171, respectively. She scored two assists in 1999, leaving her with a career total of 35, second in program history.

Jingoli, a sophomore forward, had a breakout season in 1999, finishing with 12 assists, second-best for a single season in Blue Jay history and first in the entire MAC. She also scored five goals and totaled 22 points, second on the team this season.

Stern, a senior midfielder, had five goals and six assists for a total of 16 points. She was the team's fourth leading scorer and notched three game-winning goals en route to her first MAC Commonwealth all-star season.

A senior defender, Fisher appears on the MAC Commonwealth all-star team for the first time following a season in which she scored her first career goal, a game-winner against Widener October 13.

Blanker, a junior goaltender, started 19 games for the Blue Jays in 1999, played 1546 minutes and gave up only eight goals while amassing a 12-5-1 record and nine shutouts. Her goals against average was 0.47, and she collected 80 saves and a .909 save percentage. She led the MAC Commonwealth in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.

Thompson, a junior forward, was named to the second team for the second consecutive season following her team-leading goal and point scoring effort. She scored eleven goals and had six assists for 28 points. She was third in the MAC Commonwealth in both goals and points in 1999. She is currently ranked fifth on the Elizabethtown career goal scoring list with 28, sixth in career points with 74 and ninth in career assists with 18.

Callahan, a junior midfielder, scored three goals and was second on the team in assists with seven. She was fifth on the team in points with 13. She currently ranks seventh on the Blue Jay career assist list with 19.

The Elizabethtown women's soccer team finished the 1999 season with a 15-7-1 record. The team tied the program record for longest winning streak with ten, accomplished between September 14 and October 13.

The Blue Jays finished in first place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 7-0 record, and the team was the postseason MAC runner-up.

Etown advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regional of the NCAA tournament, and fought the nation's number one ranked College of New Jersey to a 0-0 double overtime draw before falling in penalty kicks.
