ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Derik Aasan (Cary, NC/Smithtown, NY), a senior pitcher on the Elizabethtown College baseball team, has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 17.
Aasan started both games of a doubleheader against Juniata April 15. He pitched six shutout innings in each game, giving up only two hits and one walk in the first game and giving up three hits in the second.
For the day, Aasan went 2-0, allowed no runs in 12 innings, gave up only five hits and one walk, and struck out 10 while totaling only 112 pitches thrown.
Aasan is currently 6-2 in the 2000 season with a 2.81 earned run average. He leads the team with nine games started, 57.2 innings pitched, 33 strikeouts and six wins.
Elizabethtown is 17-9 overall with a 5-5 record in the MAC Commonwealth Conference.
