BLUE JAYS EDGE DEVILS, 4-3, FOR FIRST HOME WIN OF THE SEASON

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown plated two runs on a two-out throwing error in the fifth inning and went on for a 4-3 win over Dickinson on Thursday. With the win, the Jays improved to 3-8 on the season and picked up their first home victory of 1998.

Erin Reynolds came on in relief of Linda Milnes and halted a fourth-inning Red Devil rally to earn her second victory of the season. She also chipped in at the plate with a single, double and run scored.

With the game tied at two in the fifth inning, the Jays used a key Dickinson miscue to go ahead for good.

Following a fly out to open the inning, Vikki Detweiler and Kelly Spence singled and advanced on a groundout off the bat of Lora Crawford. Melissa Reinhart followed with a routine groundball to shortstop, but the throw sailed over the head of firstbaseman Caitrin Leahan, allowing Detweiler and Spence to score the crucial runs.

Dickinson had rallied to tie the game in the fourth when Jen Gunn singled home Audra Forstrom, who reached on her second double of the game. The Red Devils threatened to go ahead, but Reynolds came on to hold the Dickinson bats in check the rest of the inning.

Detweiler finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for Etown while Spence scored twice and added her team-high tenth stolen base of the season.

Forstrom finished the day with a 3-for-4 performance, two doubles and an RBI to pace the Dickinson offense. Leahan drove in the other run for the Red Devils, who fell to 6-3 on the year.

The Blue Jays open their MAC Commonwealth League schedule with a doubleheader on Saturday at home against Widener. Game time is 1 p.m.
