ELIZABETHTOWN, PA --- Elizabethtown opened its MAC Commonwealth League schedule with a doubleheader split against Widener on Saturday. The Blue Jays (4-9, 1-1) scored nine times in the sixth inning to capture the opener, 9-2, but fell in game two, 6-5, despite outhitting the Pioneers 14-7.

Etown trailed 2-0 in game one, but the Jays sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and scored nine times to notch their third consecutive win. Melissa Reinhart broke the game open with a two-run double in the inning and Missy Grey tripled and drove in two runs during the rally.

Angela Moyer went the distance, allowing only two runs on four hits, for her second victory of the season. Melanie Valentino accounted for three of Widener's four hits in the first game.

In the nightcap, Etown jumped to a 3-0 lead, but the Pioneers (10-5, 1-1) answered with five runs in the second inning on three hits and two errors to forge a split. Marissa Lee went the distance to pick up the victory despite allowing 14 Blue Jay hits.

Lora Crawford led the Etown offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Vikki Detweiler, Kelly Spence and Kristy Kordich also chipped in with two hits apiece. Kristy Nowell tossed four scoreless innings in relief of starter Erin Reynolds.

Valentino again paced the Widener offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Etown continues its league schedule on Tuesday, March 31 with a doubleheader at Lebanon Valley. Game time is 3 p.m.
