ETOWN SPLITS WITH WESTERN MARYLAND; WOULD EARN MAC PLAYOFF BID WITH SWEEP AT SUSQUEHANNA ON SATURDAY

WESTMINSTER, Md. --- Lora Crawford and Melissa Reinhart each totalled four hits and two RBI as Elizabethtown split a doubleheader with Western Maryland on Thursday, coming back to take the opener , 5-3, before falling in game two, 9-7.

With the split, Etown is now 16-17 on the season. The Blue Jays wrap up their regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at Susquehanna and would earn a berth in the MAC playoffs with a sweep of the Crusaders. Game time is 1 p.m.

Angela Moyer went the distance in game one, allowing only two earned runs on seven hits, and won her fifth game of the season when Crawford and Reinhart delivered back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the seventh inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 Etown advantage.

In game two, Western Maryland (20-7) used an error and RBIs from Jan Scott and Courtney Wunderlich take a 5-4 lead in the third inning en route to the 9-7 win. Four Blue Jay errors led to six unearned runs for the Green Terror. Linda Milnes went the distance but took the loss to even her record at 5-5.

Vikki Detweiler also helped the Etown offense, going 3-for-6 on the afternoon with three runs scored while teammate Kelly Spence went 2-for-3 in game two with a triple.

The Blue Jays finished the season with a 5-6 record against Centennial Conference competition.
