ETOWN SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH SCRANTON IN '99 HOME OPENER

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown and Scranton combined for 37 runs and 49 hits while splitting a Middle Atlantic Conference non-league doubleheader on Thursday.  The Blue Jays captured the first game, 10-8, while the Royals came from behind to win the nightcap, 10-9.  Etown, playing at home for the first time in 1999, is 4-3 on the season following the split.

Kristy Nowell (Wilmington, De./St. Elizabeth) led the Etown bats with a 6-for-7 performance on the day, including a double, triple and three RBI.  Kelly Spence (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) went 5-for-8 with five runs scored while Vikki Detweiler (Townville, Pa./Maplewood) and Kristy Kordich (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) each rapped out four hits for the Blue Jays.

Diana Zographos led the Scranton attack with two doubles and a home run among her five hits while teammate Deanne McPherson also drilled a home run in the opening game.  The Royals (1-1) scored twice in the seventh inning of game two to turn a 9-8 deficit into their first win of the season.

Etown scored four times on five straight hits in the fifth inning of game one to break open a close contest en route to the win.  The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday, March 23 with a doubleheader at home against Lycoming College.  Game time is 2:30 p.m.
