CASSERLY LEADS ETOWN TO 10-2 WIN OVER ALBRIGHT IN OPENER OF COMMONWEALTH TWINBILL; GAME TWO SUSPENDED DUE TO RAIN

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Michelle Casserly (Sussex, N.J./High Point Regional) went 2-for-4 with a career-high four RBI and Kristie Kulesa (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley) added two hits and two runs to lead Elizabethtown past Albright, 10-2, in MAC Commonwealth League action on Thursday.  With the win, the Blue Jays evened their overall record at 13-13 and improved to 6-3 in the league.

Game two was suspended due to weather after five innings with the score tied at 2-2.  It will be resumed from the point of suspension at a date to be determined.

Kristy Nowell (Wilmington, De./St. Elizabeth) allowed two runs on five hits and one walk over four innings to pick up her fourth win of the season.  Emily Marcheski also keyed the Etown offense with an RBI double and one run.

Liz Groves went 2-for-2 to lead the Albright attack while Liz Demarest (Sussex, N.J./High Point Regional) and Jeanne Scarborough each smacked a double for the Lions (6-17, 3-6).

Etown jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a two-out single from Kelly Spence and a pair of Albright infield errors.  Casserly then gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 edge in the second frame with a two-out, two-run single that plated Kulesa and Vikki Detweiler.

Marcheski's RBI double highlighted a two-run Etown rally in the third inning that made it 6-0, but Albright pulled within 6-2 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by losing pitcher Mindy Lancaster and a wild pitch.

A four-run rally in the fifth inning, however, gave the Blue Jays a 10-2 lead and the win courtesy of the eight-run rule.

With runners on second and third and one out, Kulesa drilled her second hit of the game to drive in Laurie Morris and make it 7-2.  Detweiler walked to load the bases before a passed ball advanced the runners and scored Linda Milnes to give the Jays a six-run lead.

Casserly then drove a double to the gap in left-centerfield that plated Kulesa and Detweiler with the game-ending runs.

In game two, Etown used a two-out Albright throwing error in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the contest at 2-2 before rain brought a halt to the action.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, April 17 with a home doubleheader against Messiah College.  Game time is 1 p.m.
