MILNES BREAKS STRIKEOUT RECORD AS ETOWN SPLITS WITH KEAN TO WRAP UP '99 CAMPAIGN

HILLSIDE, N.J. --- Linda Milnes (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) struck out five in a game-two victory to break the Elizabethtown record for strikeouts in a season and lead the Blue Jays to a doubleheader split with Kean in non-league action on Tuesday.  The Cougars captured game one, 3-1, but Etown recovered to take the nightcap, 9-3, and wrap up its 1999 season with a mark of 16-19-1.

Milnes, a junior righthander, closed the season with a program-record 113 strikeouts, breaking the previous mark of 110 Ks set by College Hall-of-Famer Tammy McDonald in 1988.  She also accomplished the feat while pitching a total of 106-1/3 innings, nearly 53 fewer than the program-record 159 innings that McDonald worked while setting the mark.

Michelle Casserly (Sussex, N.J./High Point Regional) led the Blue Jay attack in game two with a pair of doubles and two RBI while Kristie Kulesa (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley) and Kristin Lezinski each collected two hits and two RBI.  Laurie Morris went 2-for-3 in the opener for Etown while Jenn Zemba added two hits and a double in game two.

Nicole Stephen went 4-for-6 on the afternoon for Kean (12-29) while Emily Penksa earned the win in game one, allowing only five hits and one walk while fanning six.
