ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown finally got to unveil its new field Saturday after two previous washouts. However, it was not a sweet homecoming for the Blue Jays, which got swept by Richard Stockton (5-7) in two games, 6-2 and 5-4. Etown falls to 2-8 this season with the losses.
Etown took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game as Jessica Robinson (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) and Michelle Casserly (Sussex, NJ/High Point) both scored for the Blue Jays. The Etown lead was erased by Stockton in the top of the fourth inning with a five run onslaught, and Stockton added one more run in the top of the seventh.
In the second game, Etown took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, and extended the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Stockton capitalized on Elizabethtown errors in the top of the seventh to score four runs and take a 5-4 lead, which the Ospreys held on to in the bottom of the seventh. Etown pitcher Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) allowed only four hits in 6-1/3 innings pitched. She gave up five runs, but only one of them was earned.
Etown returns to action Monday, March 26 as host of Gettysburg for a 3:00 doubleheader.
