ETOWN SWEEPS WIDENER, 4-3 AND 3-2, TO OPEN COMMONWEALTH SEASON

CHESTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown broke out of its early-season slump at the perfect moment Wednesday, sweeping Widener in its first Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Etown won the games by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.

Kristy Nowell pitched a complete game in Etown's first win, allowing only three hits and striking out six in seven innings pitched. Erin Malone drove in a pair of runs and had a double for the Blue Jays, and Jess Robinson hit two for four and stole two bases.

In the second game, Vicki Andrel started on the mound and gave up only one unearned run and two hits in four innings. Angela Moyer took over pitching duties for the final three innings and got the win, allowing two hits and one unearned run as well.

Emily Morris hit three for three with a solo home run, two runs scored and one RBI for Etown in the second game. Kristin Lezinski went two for two with one run scored and one driven in. Both had one stolen base.
