Etown Continues Fast Start In South Carolina, Defeats Charleston 9-1, Downs Mary Washington 1-0 to Improve to 4-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- Elizabethtown picked up right where it left off after winning its first two games of the season Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as the Blue Jays defeated the University of Charleston 9-1 and Mary Washington 1-0 to improve to 4-0 in 2002.

Sarah Lengel (Pine Grove, PA) picked up the win against Charleston in the first game of her collegiate career. She combined with Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) to allow just two hits. Jess Robinson (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Blue Jays outslugged Charleston. Jenn Zemba (Library, PA/South Park) had one hit and one RBI, and Tiffany Inch (Middleburg, PA/Middleburg) batted two-for-three.

Pike and Michelle Morris (Conyngham, PA/Hazleton) shared the pitching duties in Etown's 1-0 win over Mary Washington. Pike pitched the first four innings and Morris pitched the final three innings, striking out three and getting the win. The two combined for a one-hitter. Tara VanEtten (Pittsgrove, PA/A.P. Schalick) scored the game's lone run. She was driven in on a double by Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) in the top of the sixth inning.

Elizabethtown returns to action tomorrow against Catholic University and Alvernia at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
