ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Etown Winning Streak Hits 10 Games With Doubleheader Sweep of Scranton, 6-3 and 5-4 in Eight Innings ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's current winning streak, the team's longest since 1994, hit ten games Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Scranton. Etown took the first game 6-3 and came from behind to win the second game 5-4 in eight innings. Etown improves to 16-3, the team's highest win total since 1998, with the victories, while Scranton falls to 4-2 overall with the losses. Michelle Morris (Conyngham, PA/Hazleton) threw a complete game in the first game for Etown to improve to 10-0 for the season, picking up her third win in two days. She gave up three runs, only one of which was earned, in seven innings of work and struck out seven. Erin Malone (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) batted three-for-three with two runs batted in for Etown in the first game. Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) hit two-for-three with one run scored, Kristyn Race (Dallas, PA/Dallas) hit one for three with a double and two RBI, and Tiffany Inch (Middleburg, PA/Middleburg) drove in two runs for the Blue Jays on one for three hitting. In the second game, Etown pitcher Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) improved to 5-2 in a complete game, striking out four in eight innings of work. All four runs she allowed were unearned. Scranton had two outs in the top of the third inning when an Elizabethtown error put a runner on first. Scranton scored all four of its runs thereafter in the third inning following a series of singles. Etown was down 4-1 with out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Blue Jays managed to load the bases for Jess Robinson (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic), who sent home all three runners on a triple to tie the game and send it into extra innings. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the eighth when an Inch single with two outs drove home Emily Morris. Inch went two for three in the second game with two RBI, and Emily Morris scored two runs on one for three hitting. Robinson had three RBI, all on her triple, while hitting one for three. Etown returns to action at home against Gettysburg Wednesday, March 24. Start time for the first game of the doubleheader is 3:00 p.m. |
