ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Elizabethtown Falls to Seton Hill in Season-Opening Doubleheader in Orlando, FL ORLANDO, Fla. --- Elizabethtown opened its 2005 season with a pair of losses to NAIA member Seton Hill University in Orlando, Fla. Sunday. The Blue Jays lost 4-0 in the first game and 4-2 in the second game. In the opener, Etown first-year pitcher Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) threw a complete game, striking out four while walking one in seven innings and allowing three earned runs. First-year student Megan Ottey (Plymouth, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) hit 2-for-2 for the Blue Jays in her collegiate debut, and senior Diana Aria (Philadelphia, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) hit 1-for-2. Tanya Konek (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) hit 1-for-3 in her collegiate debut for the Blue Jays. In the second game, Etown scored both of its runs when senior Megan Balmer (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) belted a two-run home run, just the second homer of her career. Jessica Cullum (Elkton, MD/Elkton) started the game in the circle for Etown and was tagged with the loss after pitching four innings and striking out one. Sarah Lengel (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) pitched 1-2/3 innings in relief and struck out one. Complete box scores from the two games against Seton Hill are currently unavailable. For the remainder of the week, Etown will face NAIA member Malone College today in a 1:00 p.m. double header, NCAA Division II member West Chester University Tuesday in a 9:30 a.m. single game, and NAIA member Pikeville College in a 9:00 a.m. doubleheader Friday. All games will take place in Orlando, Fla. |
