ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Elizabethtown Opens 2006 Season by Going 1-1 in Ft. Myers, FL Monday; Lauren Dressler Hits Grand Slam FT. MYERS, Fla. --- Elizabethtown College opened its 2006 season by going 1-1 in a pair of games at Ft. Myers, Fla. Monday. The Blue Jays lost their first game of the day 3-1 against Wheaton College (Ill.) and rallied to defeat Rockford College 14-2 in the second game. Against Wheaton, Etown pitcher Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) pitched six innings and struck out six batters in that span. She allowed just four hits and had just one walk, which was intentional. The Blue Jays could not muster the runs to defeat Wheaton, however, and Lee got the loss after Wheaton scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Etown did not mount a comeback in the top of the seventh. Kelli Thon (Victor, NY/Victor Central) drove in Etown’s only run in that game, and she batted 1-for-3. Tanya Konek (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) hit 2-for-3 for the Blue Jays against Wheaton. Etown’s 14-2 deconstruction of Rockford lasted just five innings due to the eight-run rule. Konek was the winning pitcher for Etown in that game. Thon batted 4-for-5 with three runs batted in against Rockford, and Lauren Dressler (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) batted 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam home run. Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) batted 3-for-4 against Rockford with three RBI, and Jessica Russ (Media, PA/Penncrest) hit 2-for-4. Allison McMullen (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) hit 2-for-3 against Rockford as well. No other details from the games are currently available. |
