Elizabethtown Splits Second Day in Florida; Blue Jays Defeat RIT 5-2, Fall to Curry 8-0

FT. MYERS, Fla. --- Elizabethtown College’s record now stands at 2-2 overall following a win and a loss in Ft. Myers, Fla. Tuesday. The Blue Jays defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 5-2 in their first game Tuesday and fell to Curry College 8-0 in five innings in the second game.

In the first game against RIT, Etown sophomore Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) picked up her first win of the season by pitching the full seven innings, striking out five, and allowing six hits, no walks, one earned run and one unearned run. Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) and Jessica Russ (Media, PA/Penncrest) each drove in a pair of runs, and Russ went 1-for-3 with a double at the plate. Allison McMullen (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) went 2-for-3 with one run scored for Etown, as did Tanya Konek (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh), who also stole a pair of bases. Kelli Thon (Victor, NY/Victor Central) hit 2-for-3 with one run and a stolen base for Etown. Marian Guzik (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area) hit 1-for-3 with one run scored and a stolen base as well for the Blue Jays.

In the second game, the Blue Jays were held to just two hits. Thon batted 1-for-2, and Lauren Dressler (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) hit 1-for-1 with a walk.

Elizabethtown will return to action Thursday, March 9 in Florida for single games against Salve Regina College and Tri-State University at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
