ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Elizabethtown Faces Albright in Conference Doubleheader, Falls 3-1 in First Game, Second Game to Be Replayed April 3 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown dropped a 3-1 game to Commonwealth Conference rival Albright in the opener of a home doubleheader Tuesday, and the second game, which was not completed, will be replayed in its entirety April 3, according to the rules of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC), which operates the Commonwealth Conference. In the second game, Elizabethtown and Albright were tied 4-4 at the end of the fifth inning, thereby making the game regulation length. In the top of the sixth inning, Albright scored four runs and was still at bat with two outs in the top of the sixth when the game was called by the umpires due to darkness. In NCAA rules, if an inning in a regulation-length game is not completed due to darkness, the final score of the game reverts to what it was at the end of the last completed inning. However, conference rules supersede NCAA rules for conference games, and as a result of the tie, the game must be replayed in its entirety. The game will be made up at Elizabethtown Monday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m. In the first game, Etown dropped to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Albright improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win. Etown pitcher Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) allowed two earned runs and seven hits in seven innings, and she struck out eight batters and walked one. Kelly Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) had Etown’s only hits in the game, as Johnson went 1-for-2 with a walk, and as Merrifield batted 1-for-3 with a run. Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) drove in Etown’s only run while pinch hitting. Etown will return to action on the road Tuesday, March 21 in a conference doubleheader against Messiah College beginning at 2:30 p.m. Albright College 3, Elizabethtown Coll. 1 (Game 1) |
