ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Gettysburg Sweeps Elizabethtown, 4-0 and 4-0, on Pair of Two-Hitters GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Elizabethtown dropped to 7-7 overall with a pair of non-conference road losses to Gettysburg College Thursday. Gettysburg won both games by 4-0 scores and improved to 8-4 overall with the wins. In each game, Gettysburg’s pitcher tossed a two-hitter, and in each game, Elizabethtown pitcher Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) allowed just five hits in a complete game effort and wound up with a hard-luck loss. In the first game, Gettysburg capitalized upon a pair of Elizabethtown errors to score a pair of unearned runs in the opening inning. Lee had two strikeouts in the first game and four in the second game. In the first game, Gettysburg pitcher Kristy Rubino struck out nine batters, walked one and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. In the second game, Gettysburg pitcher Beth McCullough allowed just one walk in addition to two hits, and she struck out seven Etown batters. In the first game, Elizabethtown’s hits came from Kelli Thon (Victor, NY/Victor Central), who went 1-for-3 with a single in the sixth inning to break up Rubino’s attempted no-hitter, and from Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown), who went 1-for-3 with a seventh inning double. In the second game, Merrifield got Elizabethtown’s first hit on a single in the fourth inning, and she went 1-for-3. Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) batted 1-for-2 for Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays will return to action at home Saturday, March 31 at home against Commonwealth Conference rival Lebanon Valley College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
