ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Blue Jays Sweep Doubleheader at Albright Click here for the game one boxscore READING, Pa. --- Sophomore Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) hit a grand slam in game one and first-year student Kelsea Corrado (La Plata, MD/La Plata) homered in both games to lift Elizabethtown College to a sweep of their Commonwealth Conference softball doubleheader at Albright College on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays won the opener 6-5 and took the nightcap 10-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule. In game one, Corrado roped a two-run home run in the first inning, while Church cleared the bases with a grand slam in the sixth to give the Blue Jays a 6-1 lead. Albright rallied in the bottom of the fifth as a three-run home run by Stevie Crouse trimmed the Elizabethtown lead to 6-4. The Lions added a run in the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Alex Keyes, but senior Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) finished off the win with her eighth strikeout of the game. Church and senior Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) each went 2-for-4 for the Blue Jays in game one, while junior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Crouse went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored in the opener for the Lions, who managed five hits off Lee. Ally Wenrich (3-4) took the loss for Albright after allowing eight hits and striking out four in a complete-game performance. In game two, the Blue Jays (8-11 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a passed ball, an RBI single by junior Amanda Gordon (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) and a fielders choice. Elizabethtown added five runs in the second on RBI singles by Hoover and Church and a three-run home run by Corrado, her third of the season, to give the Blue Jays an 8-0 advantage. The Blue Jays closed out the scoring in the third on an RBI double by Hoover and a sacrifice fly by Corrado. Lee (7-6) pitched all five innings of game two to earn the win, allowing three hits and striking out three. Becky Moist (3-4) started for the Lions (6-14 overall, 0-4 Commonwealth) and allowed eight runs on six hits in one-plus innings of work. Elizabethtown finished with 10 hits in game two, as Hoover finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and Corrado went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. First-year student Shannon Marsico (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs and sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) also crossed the plate twice.
