ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Blue Jays Drop Twinbill at Juniata Click here for the game one boxscore HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- A four-run fifth inning in game one and a five-run first inning in game two helped Juniata College to a doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown College in non-conference softball action on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles won game one 6-1 and took the nightcap by a 6-4 score. Rachel Nagy went 2-for-3 in each game, hitting a three-run home run in the fifth inning in game one, while Alyssa Erb picked up the win in both ends of the doubleheader for the Eagles (13-12 overall). In game one, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an error and a sacrifice fly. Juniata extended its advantage to 6-0 in the fifth on a three-run homer by Nagy and an RBI single by Callandra McCool. The Blue Jays scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning as junior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) led off with her second home run of the season. Erb struck out six and allowed five hits in the win for the Eagles, while senior Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) surrendered 11 hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out eight for the Blue Jays. In addition to Rachel Nagy, Tara Carl, Stacy Nagy and Liz Schmitt also finished with a pair of hits for Juniata. Sophomore Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) finished 2-for-3 for the Blue Jays in the opener. In game two, the Blue Jays (8-13 overall) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by sophomore Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) and an RBI single by senior Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown). However, the Eagles (13-12 overall) answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning on two-run doubles by Schmitt and Amanda Albanese and an error to take a 5-2 lead. Elizabethtown countered with two in the second on a two-run double by Hoover to pull within 5-4, but Juniata went back on top 6-4 on an RBI single by Rachel Nagy. Erb (9-7) came on in relief of starter Pam Mansell in the third inning and shut out the Blue Jays on two hits, striking out three. First-year student Lisa Malehorn (Halifax, PA/Halifax) dropped to 1-6 after yielding six runs (four earned) on six hits in two innings for Elizabethtown, with Lee striking out two in four scoreless innings of relief. First-year student Shannon Marsico (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished 2-for-3 for the Blue Jays in game two, while sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) scored a pair of runs. Rachel Nagy, McCool and Melissa Moffat each went 2-for-3 in game two for Juniata. Game one Game two |
