ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Elizabethtown Posts Doubleheader Sweep of Lycoming Click here for the game one boxscore Elizabethtown, PA. --- Senior Alex Lee (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) tossed a one-hitter in the opening game as Elizabethtown College softball posted a doubleheader sweep in Commonwealth Conference action against Lycoming College Saturday afternoon at The Nest, by scores of 5-0 and 5-2. In game one, Lee struck out four and allowed just a sixth-inning infield single, while the Blue Jays scored twice in the fourth and sixth innings to provide offensive support. Etown scored in the bottom of the second, as sophomore Sheri Hihn (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Ryan Allard (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry), and scored on a bases-loaded walk to junior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley). Sophomore Paige Tanner (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) singled with one out in the fourth and crossed the plate on an error, then sophomore Sarah Church (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) hit a sacrifice fly to right to put the Blue Jays up 3-0. Elizabethtown scored two more runs in the bottom of sixth on a wild pitch and a fielders choice to put away the win. Hihn went 3-for-3 for the Blue Jays, who had five hits off Warrior starter Jessica Nabholz. The Blue Jays fell behind 1-0 early in game two, only to come alive at the plate. Senior Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) singled to start the bottom of the second, junior Holly Martin (Elizabethtown, PA/ Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk NY) followed with a single to left and both runners moved up on an error by the left fielder. Merrifield scored when junior Amanda Gordon (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) hit an RBI single. Allard tagged a sacrifice fly that scored Martin to put the Blue Jays up 2-1. Tanner, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the second game, led off the third inning with a single, and first-year student Kelsea Corrado (LaPlata, MD/LaPlata) drove in Tanner with an RBI single to give Etown a 3-1 lead which they never relinquished. The Blue Jays added insurance runs in the 5th and 6th innings on a sacrifice fly by Corrado and an error to extend their lead to 5-2. First-year student Lisa Malehorn (Halifax, PA/Halifax) earned the win for Etown by not allowing an earned run in five innings of work, while Lee picked up the save with two innings of relief.
