ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Blue Jays Swept by Wilkes in Non-Conference Twinbill Click here for the game one boxscore EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- Host Wilkes University posted a pair of six-inning wins on Sunday over Elizabethtown College, winning the opener 8-0 and taking game two 9-1. In game one, Erin Plank hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Gina Stefanelli hit a game-ending double in the bottom of the sixth for the Lady Colonels, who finished with 11 hits. Lindsay Behrenshausen (13-5) went the distance for Wilkes, allowing two hits and striking out seven. First-year student Lisa Malehorn (Halifax, PA/Halifax) dropped to 2-7 for the Blue Jays after surrendering all eight runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Sophomore Marian Guzik (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield Area) and junior Lauren Hoover (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) accounted for Elizabethtown's hits with singles in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. In game two, the Lady Colonels (24-12) scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings, and finished off the contest with a run in the sixth. Stefanelli went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs batted in for Wilkes, while Kathy Dalton went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Sarah Miller hit a solo home run. The Blue Jays (11-18 overall) scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore Sheri Hihn (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) slugged a pinch-hit home run. Maureen Pelot (6-6) took the win for Wilkes after yielding one hit and no runs in four innings. Malehorn dropped to 2-8 for Elizabethtown as she gave up eight runs (five earned) on six hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Game one Game one |
