ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SOFTBALL Blue Jays Fall to Delaware Valley in Doubleheader Click here for the game one boxscore DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- Strong pitching by Jennifer Bummer and Kirstyn Ruhling helped Delaware Valley College sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Elizabethtown College on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 3-0 and 4-1. In game one, Bummer (6-8) allowed just three hits while the Aggies scored once in the first and two in the second to account for all of the runs in the contest. Delaware Valley went ahead 1-0 in the first on an RBI single by Kelly Andrews, and tacked on two runs in the second on RBI singles by Bummer and Robyn Jackson. Senior Abbie Merrifield (York, PA/Dallastown) went 2-for-3 with a double for the Blue Jays in game one, while Andrews and Maureen Ferguson each finished 2-for-3 as the Aggies tallied 10 hits as a team. Bummer struck out eight and walked one to pick up the shutout win, while first-year student Lisa Malehorn (Halifax, PA/Halifax) took the loss after giving up three earned runs and striking out two. In game two, the Aggies (11-17 overall) broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the second and two in the third, while Ruhling (3-7) surrendered three hits and fanned four to pick up the victory. Delaware Valley took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Bethany Pavlik, but Elizabethtown (11-20 overall) came back with a run in the second on error. The Aggies scored in the second on an RBI single by Jackson, and twice more in the third on a two-run home run by Brittany Stockert. Malehorn started for the Blue Jays and allowed two runs on one hit in one-plus inning of work to take the loss, while first-year student Kelsea Corrado (La Plata, MD/La Plata) closed with five innings of relief, allowing seven hits and two runs. Merrifield again led the Blue Jay offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, while Jackson and Christine Yacco each finished 2-for-3 for the Aggies. Game one Game two |
