CASEY MOORE WINS MOST OUTSTANDING SWIMMER AS ETOWN MEN FINISH FIFTH, WOMEN PLACE SIXTH, AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Casey Moore (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) earned the David B. Eavenson Award for being the most outstanding male swimmer after breaking three conference records at the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Scranton from Friday, February 16 to Saturday, February 18. Elizabethtown's men's team placed fifth out of eight teams at the championships with 225 points, while the women's team finished sixth out of 11 teams with 175 points.

Moore shattered the MAC 500 yard freestyle record twice Friday. He first broke the MAC record of 4:54.92, set by Albright's Andy Smith in 1995, when he swam the preliminary heat in 4:47.85. In the finals, Moore cut another five seconds off the record, finishing in 4:42.06, good enough to reach the NCAA "B" qualifying time.

Moore broke yet another MAC record Saturday, this time setting a new mark in the 200 yard freestyle with a final time of 1:42.20, meeting the NCAA "B" qualifying standard in that event as well.

Moore's final record breaking performance came Sunday, when he swam his preliminary heat in the 100 yard freestyle in 47.05. He went on to win the event with a final time of 47.42, bringing his total of individual gold medals earned at the MAC Championships to three.

Paul Contino (Flourtown, PA-Plymouth Whitemarsh) also took home conference gold for Etown in the 400 individual medley relay in a time of 4:22.25 Saturday.

Also Saturday, the men's 800 yard freestyle relay team of Contino, Michael Hyde (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland), Eric Bicocchi (Hatfield, PA/North Penn), and Moore captured the silver medal in 7:22.10.

On Sunday, the men's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Contino, Hyde, Scott English (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and Moore brought home Conference bronze for Etown with a time of 3:18.26.

In the women's events, Lindsay Texter (Lititz, PA/Warwick) captured a pair of silver medals for the Blue Jays, finishing second in the 200 yard individual medley Friday, with a final heat time of 2:17.24. She earned her second silver medal in two days by finishing second in th 200 yard freestyle in 2:00.54 Saturday.
