CASEY MOORE FINISHES 22nd OUT OF 37 SWIMMERS IN 500 FREESTYLE TRIALS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Elizabethtown freshman Casey Moore (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) finished the first NCAA Division III national championship race of his collegiate career Thursday. Moore finished 22nd in a field of 37 swimmers in the 500 yard freestyle qualifying trials with a time of 4:41.43 at the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY.

Moore got off to an exceptionally fast start and actually led the entire field through the first 50 yard lap with a time of 24.75 seconds. After 100 yards, he was in second place with 52.13. At the 150 yard mark, his time of 1:20.41 placed him fifth among all competitors. By 200 yards, his position dropped to ninth with a time of 1:49.29. Halfway through the race, he dropped to 16th with 2:18.47.

Moore's 2:47.83 split at the 300 yard mark placed him 18th, and he dropped to 21st with 3:16.94 after 350 yards. He fell behind the farthest at 400 yards as his time of 3:46.01 placed him 24th. His placement improved to 23rd with the next lap and a time of 4:14.31. He improved one more place to 22nd in the final lap to finish at 4:41.43.

Moore will also compete in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events at the NCAA championships, which continue through Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.
