ETOWN'S CASEY MOORE FINISHES TENTH IN NATION IN 200 FREESTYLE AT NCAA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

BUFFALO, N.Y. --- Elizabethtown freshman Casey Moore (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) placed tenth in the nation in the 200 yard freestyle at the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by the State University of New York Athletic Conference in Buffalo, NY, Friday.

Friday evening, Moore finished in a tie for second out of eight swimmers in the consolation finals of the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.12, 0.30 seconds faster than his trials time. The consolation finals consist of the swimmers who finish between ninth and sixteenth in the trials for an event, while the swimmers who place between 1st and 8th in the trials take part in the championship finals.

Moore completed the first 50 yard split in 23.91 seconds, reached the 100 yard mark in 50.01 seconds, reached the third split in 1:16.44, and completed the finals in 1:42.12.

Moore placed 12th out of 45 swimmers in the 200 freestyle trials Friday morning. His time in the event was 1:42.42, and was fast enough to qualify him to take part in the event's consolation finals, which are set to begin for all the day's events at 6:30 p.m. this evening.

Moore swam the first 50 yard lap of the trials in 23.89, placing him in a tie for 14th. He dropped to 16th by the halfway point at 100 yards with a time of 49.85. He remained in 16th place through 150 yards with a split time of 1:16.29. Moore made his move in the final lap, moving up four places to 12th in the final 50 yards to finish in 1:42.42.

On Thursday, Moore finished 22nd out of 37 swimmers in the 500 yard freestyle, and he posted a personal and program best time of 4:41.43 in that event.

Moore will race in the 100 yard freestyle Saturday, March 17, the final day of the NCAA championships.
