ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Etown Men's and Women's Swimming Teams Fifth at MAC Championships; Moore Wins Three Gold Medals; Blue Jays Bring Home Nine Medals CHESTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's women's swimming team finished fifth out of 11 teams with 205 points, an improvement over last year's sixth place finish, at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, held at Widener from Friday through Sunday. The Etown men placed fifth out of eight teams with 178 points, exactly the same placement of last year's team at the conference meet. The Blue Jays brought home a total of nine medals, four for the women and five for the men, in three relay events and six individual events. Leading the way for Etown was sophomore Casey Moore (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson), who won three individual gold medals for the men's team. For the women's team, sophomore Christina Blaha (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) won an individual silver medal, the first of her career, and senior Sarah Bradley (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) and freshman Holly Gish (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) each won an individual bronze medal for the Blue Jays over the three day event. Elizabethtown opened the MAC Championships Friday with a bang, as the women's 200 yard medley relay team of Stacey Benton (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg), Blaha, Kristen Kuc (Camp Hill, PA/Trinity) and Bradley raced to a bronze medal-winning finish in 1:43.65, the second-fastest time in Etown history. In the very next event, the men's 200 freestyle relay team of Scott English (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), Matt Ostrelich (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), Sean Donovan (Springfield, PA/Springfield) and Moore powered its way to a bronze medal in 1:29.41, also the second-fastest time in the history of the Etown men's swimming program. Moore returned two events later to win the gold medal in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a finals time of 4:48.41. Bradley won an individual medal Saturday, taking the bronze in the women's 200 yard freestyle in 2:01.53. Moore won the very next event Saturday, capturing the gold medal in the men's 200 yard freestyle in 1:42.74. It was his fastest time in the event thus far this season, and it was the second time this year he exceeded the NCAA Division III championship provisional qualifying time. Also on Saturday, Blaha won the silver medal in the women's 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.45, and Gish won the bronze medal in the women's 100 yard backstroke in 1:03.53 for the first conference championship medal of her collegiate career. Gish had just barely missed medaling in the 200 yard individual medley with a fourth place finish in that event Friday. In Sunday's events, Moore won his third gold medal of the meet when he captured the 100 yard freestyle in 47.36 seconds. Blaha just missed getting another medal in the 200 yard breaststroke with a fourth place finish. In the final event Sunday, the Etown men's 400 yard freestyle relay team of English, Michael Hyde (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland), Garth Semple (Marietta, OH/Mercersburg Academy) and Moore took home the bronze medal with a time of 3:15.97.
