ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Etown Women's Swimming Team Sinks Drew, 104-86, Blue Jay Men's Team Falls 103-42 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Competing for the second night in a row, Elizabethtown hosted Middle Atlantic Conference rival Drew Wednesday night, and the Etown women's swimming team won 104-86 to improve to 4-5 overall, while the Etown men's swimming team lost 103-42 to drop to 0-8 in dual meets this season. The 200 yard medley relay team of Nicole Welch (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Katie Fairman (Turbotville, PA/Warrior Run), Keeley Trumbo (Jeffersonville, PA/Great Valley) and Kristen Kuc (Camp Hill, PA/Trinity) opened the meet with a victory in 2:02.29 for the Blue Jay women. In the individual women's events, Trumbo won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:08.13 and the 100 yard butterfly in 1:05.00. Kuc won the 50 yard freestyle in 27.16 seconds, and Welch captured the 100 yard backstroke in 1:07.53. Jodie Bachman (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) won the 200 yard individual medley for Etown in 2:31.63. With a victory sealed with the final two events remaining in the meet, Etown's swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard freestyle relay participated as exhibition entries rather than as competitors. Had she not swum as an exhibition entry, Christina Blaha (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) would have won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.34, a finish over 11 seconds faster than Drew's top finisher. In the men's events, Etown's scoring was again hampered by the participation of just four swimmers. Brian Thudium (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) won the 100 yard breaststroke for Etown in a team season-best time of 1:06.24, and he placed second in the 200 yard freestyle with another season-best time of 1:56.32. It was the second night in a row he had set new season lows in the two events for the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. against MAC opponent Albright College. At Elizabethtown, Pa. |
