Elizabethtown Women Sink York, 111-94, for First Win of Season; Blue Jay Men Fall 101-64 to York

YORK, Pa. --- Elizabethtown traveled to York for a dual meet Wednesday night, and the Etown women picked up their first win of the season there, 111-94. The Blue Jay men dropped a 101-64 meet. Etown's women's team is now 1-1 overall and the men's team is 0-2 in 2003-04.

In the women's events, Etown took an early 15-2 lead on the opening 400 yard medley relay as Nicole Welch (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Katie Fairman (Turbotville, PA/Warrior Run), Keeley Trumbo (Jeffersonville, PA/Great Valley) and Mariah Manning (Richboro, PA/Council Rock) combined for a victory in 4:29.50 and another Etown relay team took second place. Trumbo also won the 100 yard butterfly for the Blue Jays. However, by the time the 100 yard freestyle was finished, Etown found itself losing to York 75-56 with just four events to go.

The Blue Jays began their dramatic comeback in the in the 100 yard backstroke as Welch won the event in 1:08.14 and Liz Martin (Springfield, PA/Springfield) took third place to cut York's lead to 81-69. In the next event, the 100 yard butterfly, Stacey Limbach (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) took first place in 5:44.94 and Joanna Hyde (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) captured second place in 5:48.36 as the Blue Jays chopped York's lead down to 85-84.

Etown took a 98-90 lead with a Fairman win in 1:14.74 and Blue Jay finishes in third and fourth in the 100 yard breastroke. Etown capped off its comeback in the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, as Trumbo, Limbach, Martin and Kristen Kuc (Camp Hill, PA/Trinity) took first place in 4:00.05 to seal the win.

In the men's events, where just five Blue Jay swimmers competed, Jason Rose (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) won both the 200 yard individual medley in 2:16.63 and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.47. Brian Thudium (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) won the 500 yard freestyle relay in 5:32.22 as well for Etown.

The Blue Jays will return to action in their first home meet of the season Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m. as Etown hosts both Lycoming and Washington & Jefferson in a triangular meet.
