Elizabethtown Gets First Wins of Season with Sweep of Lebanon Valley, Men Win 113-92, Women Win 113-86

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College's men's and women's swimming teams picked up their first wins of the 2004-05 season on the road Tuesday night at Middle Atlantic Conference rival Lebanon Valley College's metric pool. The Etown men won 113-92, and the Etown women won 113-86.

On the men's side, Etown won all but three events. Kevin O'Hara (Collegeville, PA) won a pair of individual events for the Blue Jays, taking the 50m freestyle in 26.51 seconds and the 100m freestyle in 1:00.09. Tim Matlack (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross) won the 800m freestyle in 10:16.65 for Etown, and Daniel McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) won the 100m breaststroke in 1:15.25. Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Preparatory) won the 100m butterfly in 1:04.69, and Jason Rose (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) won the 100m backstroke in 1:08.98.

The Etown men also swept both relay events, as Ryan Schutz (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) teamed up with McGuigan, DiObilda, and Brian Thudium (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) to win the 200m medley relay in 2:06.16, and as Schutz, Rose, O'Hara and DiObilda combined in their victory in the 200m freestyle relay in 1:48.40.

The Etown women won all but two events, and, had they not swum exhibition in the final two events, would have won all but one. Molly Campbell (Mountville, PA/Lancaster Catholic) won a pair of individual events for Etown, capturing the 50m freestyle in 29.44 seconds and the 100m butterfly in 1:13.28. Alyssa George (Danville, PA/Danville) scored a win in the 800m freestyle in 10:54.78, and Lindsay Kollmeier (Sewell, NJ/Ursuline Academy) took the 200m freestyle in 2:28.66. Holly Gish (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) won the 200m individual medley in 2:41.50, and Keeley Trumbo (Jeffersonville, PA/Great Valley) won the 100m freestyle in 1:04.83. Mariah Manning (Richboro, PA/Council Rock) posted a victory in the 400m freestyle in 5:15.56.

The Etown 200m medley relay team of Rachel Halton (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), Kristen Kuc (Camp Hill, PA/Trinity), Cindy Ippolito (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) and Campbell won in 2:14.15. Also, Kuc swam as an exhibition entry in the 100m breaststroke and posted the lowest time in the race of 1:23.82.

Etown will return to action on the road at McDaniel College at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30.
