ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Men & Women in Sixth Place through Second Day of MAC Championships; Trumbo and Geiger Medal WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College’s men's and women's swimming teams both remained in sixth place through the conclusion of the second day of the three day-long Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Saturday. The Etown women have 179 points, and the Etown men have 140 points. Albright leads on the women's side with 476 points, and Widener leads on the men's side with 581 points.
Two Blue Jays earned conference medals in Saturday's competition. First-year student Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) picked up a silver medal by finishing second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:09.39. In the 100 yard butterfly, junior Keeley Trumbo (Chester Springs, PA/Great Valley) earned a bronze medal by finishing third in 1:01.81. Additionally, 10 Etown entries -- six on the women's side and four on the men's side -- have thus far earned Second Team All-MAC honors by finishing between fourth and sixth in their respective events.
On the women's side Saturday, the 200 yard medley relay team of Rachel Halton (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), Geiger, Trumbo and Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) finished fifth in 1:56.04, a new season-low time, to earn Second Team All-MAC status. Brizek, a first-year student, also placed sixth in the 400 individual medley Saturday in a season-best time of 4:58.11 to earn a spot on the All-MAC Second Team in that event as well. The 800 yard freestyle relay team of Brizek, Laura Quigley (Yardley, PA/Pennsburg), Lindsay Kollmeier (Sewell, NJ/Ursuline Academy, DE) and Trumbo placed fifth in 8:33.11. On Friday, Brizek placed fourth the conference in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.45, her best of the season. The 400 medley relay team of Halton, Geiger, Trumbo and Brizek placed fifth in 4:13.38, also a new season low. The 200 freestyle relay team of Geiger, Trish Lemon (Collegeville, PA/Villa Maria Academy), Tara Ison (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) and Trumbo placed sixth in 1:47.06, another season low. On the men's side Saturday, the 200 yard medley relay team of Jason Rose (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin), Brian Thudium (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Preparatory) and Kevin O'Hara (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) finished sixth in 1:44.45 to earn Second Team All-MAC status. Also, the 800 freestyle relay team of Rose, Daniel McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), Geoff Betz (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Thudium finished sixth in 7:47.51 Saturday. On Friday, the 400 yard medley relay team of Rose, Thudium, DiObilda and Betz placed fifth in 3:48.52, a new season low by nearly 10 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay team of O'Hara, Rose, Betz and Thudium placed sixth in 1:32.96, another new season low. The MAC Championships will resume at 10:00 a.m. Sunday. at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. |
