Elizabethtown Falls to Washington College in Final Meet Before Winter Break

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown’s men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Washington College (Md.) Saturday in their final meet before winter break, and the Etown men fell 137-51, while the Etown women lost 122-81.

The Blue Jays produced many strong individual performances over the course of the meet. The women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Rachel Halton (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Keeley Trumbo (Chester Springs, PA/Great Valley) and Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) opened the meet by winning in a team season-best time of 1:56.19.

Trumbo went on to win the women’s 200 yard freestyle in 2:09.94, and she took the 100 yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:01.70 for her third win of the day. Her 100 butterfly time was just 0.58 second removed from her program record time in the event set last season.

First-year student Tara Ison (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) won the women’s 100 yard freestyle in 1:00.56 for Etown, her second best time of the season. Fellow first-year Geiger captured the women’s 100 yard breaststroke for the Blue Jays in 1:11.57, a team season-best time in that event.

Following its annual winter break training trip, Etown will return to action Thursday, January 12 when it hosts Middle Atlantic Conference rival Drew University in a 5:00 p.m. meet.
