ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Sweeps MAC Rival Drew; Blue Jay Women Win 116-75; Etown Men Win 103-77 MADISON , N.J. --- Elizabethtown College’s swimming teams swept Middle Atlantic Conference rival Drew University on the road Thursday night, as the Elizabethtown men won 103-77 and the Elizabethtown women won 116-75. With the wins, both the Etown men and women improve to 4-5 overall in dual meets and 3-1 in dual meets against MAC opponents in 2006-07. On the men’s side, Elizabethtown swimmers won five events and finished first as an exhibition entry in another. Christopher Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:53.86, the 500 freestyle in 5:00.91 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team in 1:48.12. Daniel McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.35 and was part of the 200 medley team as well. Ryan Schutz (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.55 and was part of Elizabethtown’s top finishing 200 freestyle relay team that finished first as an exhibition entry in 1:43.52. Also forming part of the Blue Jays’ winning 200 medley relay team were Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Prep.) and Matthew Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg). The other members of the 200 freestyle relay team were Michael Nelson (Voorhees, NJ), Kevin Smedman (Ft. Montgomery, NY) and Daniel Provence (Brookhaven, PA). On the women’s side, Elizabethtown swimmers won seven events and finished first as exhibition entries in two more. The 200 yard medley relay team of Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Jennifer Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) and Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus) won in 2:03.01 to begin the meet. Riley went on to win the 50 freestyle in 26.37 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:07.66. Kara Geiger also won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.99, while Brizek also won the 200 individual medley in 2:25.23. Gretchen Geiger was the first place finisher as an exhibition entry in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.90. Lindsay Kollmeier (Sewell, NJ/Ursuline Academy, DE) swept the distance events for Etown, winning the 1000 freestyle in 12:24.01 and the 500 freestyle in 6:07.42. Kollmeier also joined up with Erin Walker (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton), Danielle Hopkins (Franklin, MA/Franklin) and Tara Ison (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) to finish first as an exhibition entry in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.57. Elizabethtown will return to action at home against MAC rival Albright College Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Madison, N.J. |
