ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Produces Five Medals through Saturday’s Preliminaries at Middle Atlantic Conference Championships WILKES-BARRE , Pa. --- Through Saturday’s preliminary session of the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Catholic Youth Center, Elizabethtown College swimmers had racked up five conference medals. Results for Saturday’s finals and the current team scores for the MAC Championships, which run from Friday, February 9 to Sunday, February 11, are currently unavailable. On the women’s side, Elizabethtown produced three medals Friday. In the 50 yard freestyle, first-year student Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) captured a bronze medal with a third-place final finish of 25.69 seconds. Two relay teams also earned bronze medals. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of senior Keeley Trumbo (Chester Springs, PA/Great Valley), first-year student Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus), sophomore Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) and Riley finished third in 1:43.30. In the 400 medley relay, the team of Brizek, Gretchen Geiger (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown), Trumbo and Kara Geiger placed third in 4:12.71. On the men’s side, Elizabethtown took two medals and had one Second Team All-MAC performance in Friday’s finals. In the 500 freestyle, sophomore Christopher Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) became the Elizabethtown men’s team’s first MAC Champion since 2003 with an event-winning final time of 4:47.49. In the 400 yard medley relay, the Etown group of Miller, first-year student Tim Donahue (Hatfield, PA), junior Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Prep.) and first-year student Matthew Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) brought home a silver medal with a second place finish of 3:37.26. Also, the 200 freestyle relay team of DiObilda, Jason Rose (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin), Geoff Betz (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Drob placed fifth in 1:31.64. By placing between fourth and sixth, the group earned Second Team All-MAC status. Several Blue Jays were in the running for additional medals in Saturday night’s finals following strong performances in the day’s preliminaries. The MAC Championships will conclude Sunday, February 11. at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. |
