ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Falls to York in Dual Meet; 115-88 (women), 127-77 (men); Christopher Miller Sets New Etown 1000 Yard Freestyle Record ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown College fell to York College in a non-conference dual meet at home Wednesday night. The Etown women fell 115-88, and the Etown men lost 127-77. Despite the scores, members of Elizabethtown’s women’s team won six of 11 events, while Etown men claimed four events. Also, Elizabethtown sophomore Christopher Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) earned his first career victory for the Blue Jays in grand style, breaking a decade-old program record in the men’s 1000 yard freestyle. Miller won the 1000 freestyle in 10:35.61, shattering the old Blue Jay mark of 10:51.58 set in the 1996-97 season. Miller also won the men’s 100 yard backstroke in 56.53 seconds and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:12.21. Also winning an event for the Etown men was first-year student Matthew Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg), who captured the 50 yard freestyle in 22.97 seconds. On the women’s side, first-year student Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) picked up a pair of individual event wins, taking the 50 yard freestyle in 27.12 seconds and winning the 100 yard backstroke in 1:06.47. Also winning two individual events was fellow first-year student Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus), who won the 100 yard freestyle in 58.10 seconds and the 200 yard freestyle in 2:07.18. Christine Nutini (Newark, DE/Sanford), another Blue Jay first-year student, won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:15.07. Also, Elizabethtown’s 200 yard medley relay team of Riley, Nutini, sophomore Tara Ison (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) and sophomore Jenny Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) won in 2:03.11. Elizabethtown will return to action at home against both Middle Atlantic Conference rival Lycoming College and non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College Saturday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown, Pa. |
