ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE SWIMMING Elizabethtown Sweeps MAC Rival King’s in Dual Meet ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown College swept Middle Atlantic Conference rival King’s College (Pa.) in a dual meet at home Wednesday night. The Elizabethtown men won 97-65 to improve to 2-3 overall, while the Elizabethtown women won 108-78 to improve to 1-4 overall. The Elizabethtown men’s team is now 2-0 against MAC opponents. King’s dropped 0-3 on the men’s side and 0-4 on the women’s side with the losses. On the men’s side, Elizabethtown swimmers won six out of 11 events, beginning with the 200 yard medley relay, won in 1:52.73 by Kevin Smedman (Ft. Montgomery, NY), Timothy Donahue (Hatfield, PA), Ryan Schutz (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Jason Rose (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin). Christopher Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) took the 200 yard freestyle in 1:51.94 for Etown, and Daniel McGuigan (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:15.12. Rose won the 100 freestyle in 54.60 seconds, and Matthew Drob (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.25. Donahue won the 100 yard breaststroke for the Blue Jays in 1:05.30. In the men’s 200 freestyle relay, the Elizabethtown team of Geoff Betz (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), Kevin O’Hara (Collegeville, PA/Methacton), Darren DiObilda (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Prep.) and Drob swam as an exhibition entry and as a result did not place. However, the team did have the fastest time in the race with 1:36.13. On the women’s side, Elizabethtown racked up seven wins out of 11 events. The 200 yard medley relay team of Lindsay Riley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), Lindsay Kollmeier (Sewell, NJ/Ursuline Academy, DE), Tara Ison (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) and Erin Walker (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) won in 2:10.30 to begin the meet. In the 1000 yard freestyle, Laura Quigley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) won in 12:21.64 for Etown, and Christine Nutini (Newark, DE/Sanford) won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:10.10. Kara Geiger (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus) won the 50 yard freestyle in 27.18 for Elizabethtown, and Kollmeier took the 100 yard freestyle in 1:03.24. Jennifer Brizek (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:07.87 for the Blue Jays, and Geiger won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:49.32. Also, Elizabethtown’s women’s 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Geiger, Riley, Nutini and Brizek swam as an exhibition and did not place as a result, but the team swam the race’s fastest time of 1:47.59. Elizabethtown will return to action when it hosts MAC opponent Susquehanna University in a 1:00 p.m. home meet Saturday, November 18. at Elizabethtown, Pa. |
