ETOWN WOMEN WIN SECOND CONSECUTIVE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP; BLUE JAY MEN FINISH SEVENTH

CHESTER, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown women's swimming team captured gold medals in 11 out of 18 events to win the 1999 Middle Atlantic Conference swimming championships on Sunday at Widener University, the second straight year the Blue Jays have won the conference title.  Etown scored 409 points during the three-day event, 80 points ahead of second-place Drew.

The Elizabethtown men finished in seventh-place out of 11 teams, only one points behind sixth-place Lycoming.

\Lindsay Texter (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Jackie Zimmerman (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) led the way for the Etown women with six gold medals apiece.  Heidi Yoder and Brooke Knepper finished with five gold medals each for the Blue Jays while Sarah Bradley won three times and Sarah Klaiber won once.

The Blue Jay men were paced by freshman Paul Contino, who won the MAC championship in the 1650-yard freestyle and added a second- and third-place finish on the weekend.

Texter won individual gold in the 200 and 500 freestyle events and also struck gold as a member of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays and the 400 medley relay.

Zimmerman, who finishes her collegiate career with 23 MAC gold medals, won individual gold in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and also was a part of the winning 200 and 800 freestyle relay teams and the gold medal 200 and 400 medley relays.  She posted an NCAA national B-cut time of 1:06.92 while winning the 100 breaststroke.

The Etown women captured all five relay events during the championships.  The women's swimming squad is only the fourth out of the College's 16 athletic programs to win back-to-back MAC championships.
