ETOWN WOMEN SIXTH, MEN FOURTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- After the first day of competition Friday, the Elizabethtown women’s swimming team is in sixth place with 44 points, and the men’s team is in fourth place with 52 points at the 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Susquehanna University.

The women’s 800 yard freestyle relay team of Lindsay Texter (Lititz, PA/Warwick), Stacey Benton (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg), Sarah Bradley (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant), and Brooke Knepper (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport) finished third in the finals with a time of 8:18.97. The women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Sarah Klaiber (Hazelton, PA/Hazelton), Texter, Knepper and Bradley finished fifth in 1:59.18.

In the men’s events, Paul Contino (Flourtown, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:24.05, over three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Eric Bicocchi (Hatfield, PA/North Penn), Brian Polaski (Newark, DE/Newark), Contino and Jon Fortin (West Hartford, CT/William H. Hall) finished sixth in 1:46.25. The 800 yard freestyle relay team of Bicocchi, Michael Hyde (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland), Contino and Fortin also finished sixth with a time of 7:39.31.

The MAC Championships continue Saturday and Sunday at Susquehanna, beginning at 10:00 a.m. each day.
