ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL BLUE JAYS PICK UP THIRD WIN OF SEASON AT HUNTER INVITATIONAL NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. --- Elizabethtown took a big chomp out of the Big Apple Saturday at the Hunter College Invitational. The Blue Jays gained their third victory of 99, defeating Russell Sage, 3-2. Earlier in the day, the team lost to St. Josephs of Patchogue, 3-0, and dropped a match to Rowan by a highly deceptive 3-0 margin. In the first match of the tournament, Etown lost 8-15, 14-16, 8-15 to St. Josephs. The day continued with a hard-fought 11-15, 15-17, 15-17 loss to Rowan. The Blue Jays came back in the third match to win, 15-2, 13-15, 15-6, 12-15, 15-8, over Russel Sage. Once again, the Blue Jays displayed their counter-intuitive tendency to play very strong matches at the end of tournaments. For a team with only eight players in a sport which requires six to be playing, one would expect fatigue to be a greater factor than it has been for Elizabethtown in the three tournaments in which it has participated. The Blue Jays return to action on the road Monday, October 11 against Dickinson, a team which they defeated earlier this season in the final game of the Blue Jay Classic Tournament September 25. Match time is 7:00 p.m. at New York, N.Y.
