ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to local rival Franklin and Marshall, in a 3-0 decision Monday.
Franklin and Marshall jumped out to 15-8 and 15-6 wins in the first two games of the match, but Elizabethtown fought back from an early 7-3 deficit in the third game to tie the score at 8-8. Elizabethtown (1-2 overall) eventually fell in the third game by a 15-12 score.
Leading Etown's offensive efforts was freshman Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) with 19 kills. Morris also had a team-high 14 digs. Gabriella Clarke (Woodlyn, PA/Ridley) totaled four blocks for the Blue Jays.
With Monday's loss, Elizabethtown is saddled for the next year with the "Harrisburg SPike" trophy, a wooden carving of a fish bestowed upon the loser of each season's regularly scheduled Etown/F & M match.
Elizabethtown returns to action on the road for a tri-match at Penn State-Altoona Saturday, September 9. Match time is 1:00 p.m., with a match against Mt. Aloysius to follow at 2:30 p.m.
