ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown picked up its first home victory of the season Monday against Dickinson, 3-1. It was the second consecutive win for the Blue Jays, which are now 5-8 overall. Dickinson falls to 6-5 with the loss.
Dickinson opened the first game with a 6-4 lead, but Elizabethtown took control of the game, ending with a five point run and winning 15-7. Dickinson closed out the second game with five unanswered points to win 15-8. The Blue Jays commanded the third game, jumping out to a 7-2 lead and winning 15-7.
In the fourth game, Elizabethtown began by taking a daunting 9-5 lead over the Red Devils, only to see it slip away as Dickinson pulled within two points of forcing a fifth game tiebreaker with a 13-9 lead. Minutes later, the score was 14-11 in favor of Dickinson and the Blue Jays responded with five unanswered points to win the game 16-14 and take the match 3-1.
Dawn Johns (Baltimore, MD/Lansdowne) and Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) led Etown's offense with 14 kills each. Morris also had a team-high 25 digs.
Gabriella Clarke (Woodlyn, PA/Ridley) led the Blue Jays with six blocks and two service aces.
Elizabethtown returns to action on the road against Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah Wednesday, September 27. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
