ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL Emily Morris Breaks Single Match Dig Record, Becomes First Blue Jay to Record 1,500 Career Digs, As Etown Sweeps Second Day of Scranton Invitational SCRANTON, Pa. --- Apparently one broken College record in a weekend just was not enough for Elizabethtown senior Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton). The outside hitter, who became Etown's all-time career leader in digs Friday, recorded 44 digs in Etown's 3-1 win over City College of New York in the Scranton Invitational Saturday morning, thereby eclipsing the old Etown record for most digs in a match of 43 set in 1996. In doing so, she also became the first Etown volleyball player to pass the 1,500 mark in career digs. Elizabethtown went on to defeat Muhlenberg 3-0 in its final match of the tournament Saturday afternoon and improve to 6-4 overall. Etown defeated CCNY 27-30, 30-22, 30-25, 30-23, as Morris had her record-breaking performance in digs and tied for the team lead in kills with 10. Lindsay Johnson (Elkton, MD/Sanford) also had 10 kills to lead the team, and Jenn Kline (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) totaled 34 assists and three service aces. In Elizabethtown's 30-28, 30-22, 30-9 win over Muhlenberg, Morris led the Blue Jays in kills with 14 and tied for the lead in service aces with three, and she had 15 digs to improve her career total to 1,536. Meghan Gowens (Pensacola, FL/B.T. Washington) led Etown in digs with 16 and had nine kills for the match. Johnson added 10 kills and had three service aces to tie for the team lead. Etown will return to action in its first Commonwealth Conference match of 2003 Tuesday, September 16 on the road at Lebanon Valley. Start time is 7:00 p.m. At Scranton, Pa. |
